Annette Upton

Annette can’t get away from teaching!  What better curse can a person have?

Over the years, she has taught everything from water aerobics to computer engineering to children’s Sunday school classes, but wanting something more, she opened Accent Music Academy.  She loves figuring out what each student needs to bloom and grow into the musician (or engineer or human being…) he or she wants to become.

It would be impossible for her to name a favorite type of student.  Her youngest students bring laughter, games, and enthusiasm to her day.  Students with learning differences light up Annette’s world as they overcome challenges and find success.  Wonderful curse, indeed!

Annette also loves integrating technology into the music making and learning process.  She is currently building her own Hauptwerk virtual organ, so that her students can experience the most realistic pipe organ experience possible outside a cathedral.  Digital sheet music with wireless page turning devices, wearable metronomes, and recording gadgets of all types adorn the studio.

In their oh-so-abundant spare time, Annette and her husband, Joe, participate on the board of directors of Bonham’s House, a Hillsboro nonprofit organization that breaks housing barriers and builds foundations for permanent self-sufficiency for its clients.
